We at Vatnssteinn are passionate about working with Nature. Our aim is support and protect Wildlife. A health river system is key to ensure a sustainable and balanced wildlife within. In a world of climate change, overbreeding and overfishing we believe that Atlantic Salmon needs to be treated with care an brought up in an eco-friendliy sustainable environment - that is our mission.

FISH LADDER

A lot of work goes into designing a fish ladder. The height and grade between the pools, the number of pools, the size of the pools and water flow are only a few factors that have to be considered. Fish ladders aren't one-size-fits-all - each has to be tailored for the type of fish that will be using it. In Vatnssteinn we take pride to build the best eco-friendly Fish Ladders for Atlantic Salmon.

SMOLT HATCHERY

We at Vatnssteinn believe in a sustainable non-GMO salmon hatching. Building the best Hatcheries for each individuell environment is our speciality. Our in- and outdoor Hatcheries are suited for any Atlantic Salmon River System. Our goal is to hatch each Smolt with care and patience to use only the natural river water to achieve the most efficient return rate for the river.

RELEASE POND

When our Smolts grow we believe to release them in several different natural ponds close to the river system where they can start to develop in their natural environment. The different release-pond location are equally spread through-out the river system to allow the Salmon to return over several pools over the whole system rather than returning only close at their one release pond.

FORESTRY

Vatnssteinn is working together with private forestry companies, the government and local authorities in developing, consulting and distributing the knowledge within forestry. Vatnssteinn provides its services in forestry as a stand-alone project but also in combination with river developments to maintaining a sustainable flow of water during the dry season, reduce erosion and preserve a high and nutritious water-quality. In recent years, with ever clearer signs of global warming, carbon sequestration has become one of the most important drivers of new afforestation projects in Iceland.
